How to Start a Side Hustle with No Money
It might sound like a dream, but you can start a side hustle even if you have no money.
You will also get some examples of popular side hustles that you can start without any or little investments throughout this article. In the end, I will reveal my personal favorite side hustle that you can start today, even if you have a full-time job right now.

If you don’t have experience in any areas listed above, you can still start a side hustle, which I will discuss next.
How to Start a Side Hustle Without Any Skills
Even if you have no experience in any areas discussed above, you can still start a side hustle, especially online, even if you think you don’t have any skills.
Let me share an example to show you the potential.
Do you see the featured image or the cover post of this article? It looks pretty professional and advanced, doesn’t it? Do you think a professional graphic designer made it?
It wasn’t! I made it myself.
All I did was combine a stock photo that I have the legal rights to use and online software with amazing templates called Canva.
Even if I paid for the stock photo, you could do this completely free by using a stock image photo from Pexels.com, for instance.
As you probably noticed, I found the picture on Pexels.
I decided to include this image to show you what is possible, but I strongly suggest that you read through the terms and conditions of the site you will be using before you use them.
It is only a piece of friendly advice since I am not a lawyer. If you want to consult one to be on the safe side, please do it.
Here is a hands-down description of how you can do graphic design online as a Freelancer:
- Find a free picture on a site like Pexels.com.
- Download the image to your computer.
- Create or login to your Canva-account.
- In the search box on the top, type in what you want to make, e.g., cover image or Facebook post.
- Choose the template that fits your needs.
- Upload the photo by dragging and dropping the image to the left-hand side of the sidebar.
- Drag the image from the left-hand side to the right-hand side where the template is.
- Do the changes you need to make it useful for your client.
- Click on “Download” on the right-hand side of the menubar.
- You have a unique image that your client can use.
I hope that my example clarifies how easy it is to start a side hustle without any skills.
Where to Sell Your Services as a Freelancer
Many sites offer freelancers to sell their work, and as I described in my example above, you don’t have to pay anything, but you can get paid.
One of the most popular sites is UpWork.com, but there are more sites as well.
Here are some freelance sites where you can sell your services as a freelance graphic designer:

- Upwork.com
It can be a great way to start a side hustle if you want to earn some extra money and have some time to do it every day. The process is the same for other side hustles, even if they might use a different set of tools.
Why Start a Side Hustle in the First Place?
You might be asking yourself why you should start a side hustle at all?
If you want to make extra money to spend on your family or yourself or donate to your favorite cause, having a side hustle might be an option.
It will feel very fulfilling when you use something you love to make some money on the side.
If you want to scale up your side hustle to replace your full-time income, you will need to get a high-income skill, and the side hustle you have chosen might not help you do it, even if many freelancers make a decent amount of money every month.
There are many ways to start a successful side-hustle these days.

How to Start a Side Hustle and Make Six Figures
It is possible to start a side hustle and make six figures or even more, and if you’re starting, I know how ridiculous it may sound to you right now.
When I first started, it seemed preposterous to me.
However, many people, myself included, have experienced the possibility to do it, and I will share the secret key with you right now.
In the beginning, you need to keep your price low to get your first clients.
For that reason, you will not earn a lot of money initially, but the key is to grow your portfolio, and then you can start adding either more services/products or ramping up your initial price tag.
The more you do things, the better you will be at doing them, even if you hate doing it.
Think about the first day at the job or position you last held. You weren’t as good at it as you were today when you began, so don’t expect to earn six figures right away.
Most people make nothing in the beginning, and that is what you should expect.
If you set your expectations right from the start, you will not feel like you are a failure, and I want to share another reason why most people fail with you now.
Most people give up too soon, after only a couple of days.
It took me eight whole years before I made anything with my side hustle, and if I had given up after a week, I would never get the results I am currently getting.
If you understand that being patient is a virtue and being rewarded, you will love it.
I also want to tell you that even if it is possible to make six figures online, I can not guarantee that you will make it since I don’t know how long you will stick with anything I discuss on this blog.

I live in India. Is it possible for me to make money online?
Yes, it is absolutely possible to make money online if you live in India.
I live in Kenya. Can I start a side hustle?
Yes, you can. You can start a side hustle in all countries that I am aware of, at least, and where the Internet is available. You might need to inform your employer about it. But, as long as it is not in the same industry you are currently working in, it should be fine.
English isn't my first language. I can not make money off the Internet then, or can I?
Non-native English speakers can sell their services to English-speaking markets and make money online. If English isn’t your first language, you might be offering translation services between English and your native language. A non-native English speaker writes the article you are reading right now. You can, of course, offer freelance services to companies in your native country and your local language as well.
How to Start a Side Hustle with a Full-Time Job
As I wrote above, starting a side hustle online might be possible if you have a full-time job right now.
But, you might be obligated to inform your employer even if you will do something completely different from your current position. Make sure that you check your current contract or consult a lawyer.
I am neither a lawyer nor employed by the same company you are working for, so that’s the best advice I can give you.
If you have a full-time job right now, you are in a good position and can start something on the side today and slowly grow it until you earn enough income to replace your full-time job.
