What Is Pinterest and How Can I Make Money with Pinterest for FREE?

Pinterest is a visual search engine.

Think about Pinterest as that, and NOT as a social media platform like you, and most people might think about it.

You will soon realize why you need to start thinking about it since the best way to make money with Pinterest for FREE is to use the three-step proven search engine optimization (SEO).

Don’t worry if you feel confused or overwhelmed now.

I will explain EVERYTHING to you in this article, and leave no stones untouched, so you don’t have to make any guesswork here.

You will get my proven 3-step system below, completely for FREE, with my over-the-shoulder training included.

I understand how frustrating it is when you don’t understand it and hear other people claiming how easy it is to make money for FREE.

The Best Niches to Start Making Money on Pinterest

As I previously shared with you, not all traffic is created equal.

If you want to get a fast result, you may be tempted to start using paid advertising.

However, if you’re just starting, I would advise you not to do it.

Instead, I would start using a free method to reach the right kind of audience for your niche.

It doesn’t matter whether you have a blog or a Youtube channel, or even an Instagram account that you want to get more eyeballs to (aka traffic).

As you probably noticed, I almost only recommend that you start with Pinterest if you have some visual things to share.

Even if blogs are more text than images or videos, it still works tremendously well if you understand how to share your content on the Pinterest platform, which you will do after reading this free guide.

You might have landed on this blog post since I use Pinterest to get traffic to this blog.

I began with Pinterest for this blog in December 2020 but have done it with my other blogs before, so I knew what I was doing when I started.

For this reason, I want to share my knowledge with you in this guide.

So, what are the best niches to make money online with Pinterest?

If you want to get more eyeballs to your videos, images, or blog posts, Pinterest will be good if you are in the following niches:

  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Art
  • Baking
  • Cooking
  • Dating for Women
  • Digital Marketing
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Fitness for Women
  • Gardening
  • Health
  • Home Decor
  • Internet Marketing
  • Law of Attraction
  • Make Money Online
  • Makeup Guides and Tutorials
  • Meditation
  • Natural Medicine
  • Parental Guidance and Advice
  • Recipes
  • Social Media Marketing
  • Traffic Generation
  • Weight Loss
  • Women’s Health
  • Yoga

Some Useful Information to Consider Before You Start with Pinterest

As you probably are noticing, most of the Niches that are the best to use on Pinterest are catered towards women, even if some of the niches work for men.

The reason for that is that most people on Pinterest are women.

You also might love it, especially if you are using Pinterest to get traffic to your offers because the average user on Pinterest earns more money than the average user on other platforms.

However, you shouldn’t put your affiliate links directly in your Pinterest post.

Otherwise, you are risking getting your account shut down, and that is something you don’t want to happen, right?

How to Start Your Brand New Pinterest-Account (Step-by-Step Instructions)

To start your brand new Pinterest account, you need to head over to Pinterest.com.

It is free to start one, and there are no limitations on how many accounts you can have, so if you cover many different topics, I recommend that you create one for each topic and focus on that one.

For instance, the Pinterest account linked to this blog has much other information relatable to the topics discussed here.

Step 1: Come Up with a Good Name for Your Pinterest-Account

First and foremost, I recommend that you call your account the same thing as your name, blog, or the same name you use on other social media networks such as Instagram or YouTube.

You need to do a little bit of research since there are three levels that you need to be aware of within your Pinterest account:

  • The name of your account, which should have at least one relevant keyword to your niche in it. It should be a term that people are searching on. Your research will tell you a couple of keywords to go after.
  • Your boards, which are other topics that are longer than the main keyword. I will give you an example below.
  • Your pins, which are your posts that contains links back to your blog, or social media account. I will share more details about this later.

The easiest way to do your keyword research is to start typing in terms that you know are common in your niche.

I strongly suggest that you take as much time as you feel that you need to do this important step since this is the most important strategy.

The longer you take here, the quicker you will reap the rewards from your keyword research later on.

Step 2: Create Your Boards with Long Tail Keywords

If you, for instance, are in the Women’s Weight Loss-niche, which will be the first level of your account, you might notice that the most popular accounts in your Pinterest-niche have boards, which is the second level of your account named “weight loss after childbirth,” “weight loss for women over 40”, “weight loss for women after menopause,” and so on.

Your research will help you see trends within your niche, which means that you should create similar content and use it on Pinterest to get more people to notice you on the platform a lot quicker.

The more people that notice you, the quicker you will become an influencer.

After creating your boards, it is time to fill them with 5-20 different pins from the successful Pinterest accounts you noticed when you did your research.

Step 3: Start Posting Your Pins

Lastly, you want to start to post your own pins.

You want to start by re-pinning (sharing) other people’s pins because you will see what already is working for the most influential people on Pinterest.

To make money with Pinterest for free, you should model, NOT COPY what others are successfully doing.

Success leaves clues, and by spending a lot of time doing your research, you will find success a lot quicker, and it will become easier for you to do it.

Here are a few things to notice:

  • What kind of pictures seems to get the most re-pins (shares)?
  • What kind of language are they using in the image?
  • Are they using videos?
  • What kind of text do they use? I will cover some information for your own pins below.
  • Do they use hashtags as well (e.g. #womensweightloss) in the pins to get more views?

Now that you have done your research and hopefully have written down all the details, it is time to start creating your own pins and getting eyeballs to your blog or social media profile.

How to Create Your Pins for Free

Creating your pins is easy, and you can do it for FREE, even if you’re not a designer. I’m not a designer myself and am not creative with images at all.

Yet, I can make my own pins and use them with an online tool that works on any device.

It is called Canva. You can sign up for a FREE account here.

If you use my link above, you will get one premium item for free. It usually costs $1 per item, and I will get one too for referring you.

Congratulations! You have just posted your own pin. Here is how you create your pins for your Pinterest account the right way:

  1. Type in “Pinterest” in the search bar in Canva.
  2. Choose the option “Pinterest Pin”.
  3. You will now get a couple of templates. I recommend that you pick a template with high-contrast colours to make it stand out. Then you will be taken to where you can modify your design. If you are not satisfied with the design you picked first, there will be more options available for you now. Just type, or scroll and choose another one that suits you better.
  4. Create your pin by changing the text, dragging and dropping images, until you are satisfied.
  5. Use the keyword your blog post are targeting and rename your design to that, e.g. “weight loss for women over 40”.
  6. Download your new design. IMPORTANT NOTE: Don’t click on the button “Publish on Pinterest”. I recommend that you click on the button located to the left of that button instead to download it to your computer.
  7. Go to Pinterest and select “Publish a Pin”.
  8. Click on the image, and upload it.
  9. Enter the keyword in the title, as well as in the first 50 characters of the description in the pin.
  10. Use some of the hashtags at the end.
  11. Click “Publish now”, or “Publish later”. Then, select a date, and a time when you want your pin to become visible for others.

How to Post Your Pins Manually and Best Practices

Repeat it as many times as you need to. Preferably you should only publish 3-4 pins of your own and about 10-15 other people’s pins each day.

It is a good strategy for your first 30 days on Pinterest.

I recommend that you do one more thing before you publish your next pin, and it is even more important to do if you want to spend money on ads on Pinterest.

Go to your account, and confirm your website.

That will make both your organic reach better and help keep your costs down if you choose to pay for ads.

It might not sound very easy to you. Everything you need to do to confirm your website is to go to your account settings, click on “Confirm your website,” and follow the instructions.

If you don’t want to spend anything, you don’t have to do it.

The organic reach on Pinterest is significantly higher than other search engines and social media platforms.

How to Automate Your Pinterest Pins

It can be a tedious task to pin your pins manually, especially if you have many posts that you need to create pins for all of them. You might want to automate it.

There is, to my knowledge, only one who allows you to do it for free.

It is called Tailwind, and you can go here to sign up for a free account.

All that is required is an Instagram account or a Pinterest account. Since you created the latter one recently, you could use that one to sign up.

The free version allows you to share 10 pins daily.

I have used it for all my blogs, including this one, and it works well.

If you want more options than the free Tailwind account offers you, there is, of course, an option to upgrade to a paid account. The paid version gives you even more options and functions to use.

However, since this is written for beginners who want to do it for free, I do not cover this topic here.

Another thing outside of this article’s scope is how you can use paid advertising to drive even more traffic to your blog by using Pinterest.

Make Money with Pinterest and Clickbank

I know that many people who visit this blog want to know how you can make money with Pinterest and Clickbank.

When I began using Pinterest, you could use the raw affiliate link you got from Clickbank, and I never ran into any issues with it.

However, recently, I have noticed that it will get your account banned.

For this reason, I do not recommend that you use it in that way any longer.

Instead, I suggest that you follow my strategy above and put your affiliate link inside of your articles instead.

This article does not have any affiliate links in it.

Happy pinning!
